Downtown Revalization Efforts

Railroad Land
Keene, New Hampshire

railroadland.jpgIn 2005, MEDC was awarded the redevelopment of a blighted six-acre site in the heart of downtown Keene known as the Railroad Land. The vision for this project included commercial office and retail space, a hotel, as well as senior housing, high-end residential housing condominiums, and market rate rental units, some fully accessible. The project consists of five buildings containing 167,000 square feet of total space and pledges the creation of 75 new jobs, 24 new apartments for low income seniors, eight new units of market rate residential condominiums and office space for sale or lease. As of late 2017, the $1+ million expansion of the Monadnock Food Co-op (completed in 2013), marks the next phase of Railroad Land development.

Oscar Brown Block Historic Renovation
Claremont, New Hampshire

oscarbrownblocksmall.jpgLocated at the corner of Pleasant Street and Opera House Square, this vintage Civil War building is a key piece of Claremont's downtown history. The complex economic development finance package necessary to renovate and repurpose the block was structured by MEDC. The prominent two-story building contains approximately 11,000 square feet of commercial space and affordable housing.

Beaver Mills
Keene, New Hampshire


MEDC, in partnership with Southwestern Community Services, purchased and renovated this 60,000 square foot former shoe factory to accommodate new commercial space and senior housing. The $9 million project involved over a dozen different funding sources. The renovated complex is listed on the National History Registry.


46 Main
Keene, New Hampshire

46Main.jpgIn order to transform the former Woolworths Department Store block at 46 Main Street in Keene into a mixed-use retail and office facility, MEDC partnered with a for-profit developer to assemble more than $3 million in funding. The 32,000 square foot building is home to Vision Financial, Hanna Grimes Marketplace, and others.


Chamberlain Block Building
Keene, New Hampshire

ChamberlainBlock.jpg MEDC purchased and renovated this 38,000 square foot form Sears Department Store block on the west side of Central Square in Keene. The $2 million renovation resulted in two floors of commercial space and thirteen apartment units.



Lane Hotel
Keene, New Hampshire

Hotel.jpgThis $7 million renovation project was formerly Goodnow's Department Store on Main Street in Keene. After its renovation, this three-story building now houses forty hotel rooms, a restaurant and a variety of meeting rooms.





Wells Street Parking Deck
Keene, New Hampshire 

WellsSt.jpgBuilt in conjunction with the E.F. Lane Hotel, this $3 million project added 255 parking spaces to the downtown area.
